Intro

Travel is my strongest stress buster and one of my dear passions. Tennis, automotive, single malt whisky, BBQ, corporate strategy, marketing, and design being the others. Stories have always spoken to me — as they do to most, so visual storytelling has been a way to connect more than one of my affections together. My love for photography started during my undergraduate years through some hikes in the Himalayas. Those trips made me fall in love with the mountains — 25 years later, I still dream of going back hiking in the Himalayas. The photography bug stemmed from me tinkering with old Russian manual cameras and developing black and white film in the rudimentary, somewhat archaic, but fully functioning darkroom at my college. In hindsight, it was a real privilege.

Over the years, business and leisure trips have taken me to a lot of places around the world. I have been fortunate to travel a lot, yet remain curious for more. My love for mountains remains intact, as does my fear of water, but my photographic pursuits have evolved more towards stories of people, culture, and the local context of places I go to. The human spirit, in whichever part of the world it may be, both fascinates and inspires me.

Inspiration

Everybody needs and has a source of inspiration. I happen to have many, which are not limited to famous photographers, although there are some.

Locations
Streets of Kolkata: I was born in Calcutta (Kolkata) and as a child never quite liked the city. The noise, heat, humidity, and chaos didn’t fancy me at all. Until I grew up and visited back the city of my birth with a camera and a photographer’s eye (and a foodie’s appetite). Of course, now that I live on the other side of the world, I yearn to walk the streets of Kolkata whenever I can. Perhaps these behind-the-scenes snippets from the documentary McCullin in Kolkata might help explain what I am on about.
